Alexandre Orion is a Brazilian tagger that got famous doing clean tags of skulls in a tunnel of Sao Paulo.

The concept can not be easier, with a rag and some water, Alexandre removed the black dust from the dirty walls of the tunnel, and there it goes.

Obviously the police cannot arrest anyone for cleaning up the city..

And how did the city council get rid of the tag? ... By cleaning up the whole tunnel!

It happened in 2007, but it took quite some time to get to my ears ^^

I'm a big fan of Tim Burton. I know it is getting quite common to like him now that he's so famous. And I don't like common things. But still. I'll always remember how fascinated I was when I saw "Vincent" short film at the cinema, just before "Nightmare before Christmas". It was the first time I saw darkness in an animated cartoon.

And now, after a whole cruel period of ignorance, I just discover -thanks to the TV program Tracks on Arte- Edward Gorey, an illustrator who influenced Mr Burton and who.. how to put it in some elegant terms... rocks da house.

L'inconnu du métro

Je disais donc, première semaine de stage à Paris.
Et c'est avec tendresse que je me rappelle mes excursions à la capitale, paisible provinciale alors, avec leurs lots de stations de métro étouffantes, de changements aux couloirs sans fin , d'escaliers et de gares impraticables avec des valises toujours trop lourdes et encombrantes, de rames bondées, de visages - le mien en premier - fermés et impassibles. Et cette inquiétude face à la réalité éminente: "Non, je ne veux pas vivre à Paris". Et bim. Comme s'il pouvait en être autrement.

Cette allergie métroïdale s'est bizarrement apaisée ce week-end, en cliquant distraitement sur un lien posté par une connaissance sur facebook vers ce blog: L'inconnu du métro. Tout d'un coup ces visages fermés sont devenus terriblement sympatiques...

So here I am, back again in sweet big Paris. for work.

First week of my internship has got me a bit tired. mainly because I am addicted to sleep and waking up at 8am for working 8hrs is not easy for an organism constantly in hibernation.

To keep up with my tradition of sleeping in during week-ends, I just woke up today at 1pm 0:)
Sun is shining outside, trees are in their summer mood, I'm listening to the Local Natives - Wide Eyes.

Vue à l'exposition "Retour vers le futur, Buy-Sellf" (6fév-16mai) au CAPC Musée d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux, une oeuvre de Stéphane Vigny:

Intitulée "Lustre" (2007), appelons un chat un chat, elle combine dans une quasi-évidence l'ancien et le moderne. Le néon est l'éclairage basique, simple et bon marché que fût la bougie. Le remplacement et le prolongement fait objet s'imposent comme une évidence bien que créant un objet un tant soit peu incongru. S'il confronte les époques, ce lustre confronte également les styles en superposant le lustre des appartements bourgeois et le néon industriel. Pour reprendre le texte de l'exposition " combinaison entre deux éléments appartenant à des systèmes de valeur antagonistes, mariages contre nature entre des codes desuets et d'autres, tournés vers une modernité technologique".

Voilà de quoi illustrer ce postulat enseigné pendant cette année de mastère: pour innover, allons chercher ailleurs. Jouer à combiner des éléments d'univers différents est souvent un remède efficace contre la monotonie.

Trouver une oeuvre, qui s'apparente à l'univers du design et passerait aussi bien au salon Maison&Objet qu' un logo Starck sur une bûche de noël Lenôtre (oui, enfin...), dans une exposition d'art contemporain interroge mon cerveau d'écureuil sur la fine frontière entre art contemporain et design. Unique vs pluriel? Présence ou absence d'une utilité? d'une étiquette prix? Un peu de tout ça et au final peut-être la même mise en objet d'une réflexion mais pour une démonstration ou une finalité différente...hmm..ou un truc du genre..

I am still in the process of knowing if I like him or not! haha. Tho there is something natural and genuine in all his photographs that I like. Does really biocosmetics packaging have to be ugly and cliché to reassure customers on how genuine and natural they are?

For our 'Semiology of Brands' course, we're working on that subject with Mathilde. After an inventory of the offer in France, we've inferred the trend that 'bio-products are natural and simple, therefore/because they don't waste money on brand image'.

Still, the Ecocert label predicts that 10% of the cosmetics total sales will be 'bio' in 2010, contrary to the actual 4%. So how will biocosmetics attract more customers?

By becoming a product like all the others. By integrating itself in the everyday life and stop being 'for only those who know and care'. Let's hope that 'bio' will be for everyone, and that it will be someday the standard and not the exception.

If you ever go to Beijing (true, it doesnt happen everyday, but in case..), don't miss the 798 Art District. It's discretly mentionned in guidebooks ( the Forbidden City, the Great Wall are some serious competitors) but it's worth seing, and the place is huge!

As "modestly" described on the website: "It became a "Soho-esque" area of international character, replete with "loft living," attracting attention from all around. Bringing together contemporary art, architecture, and culture with a historically interesting location and an urban lifestyle, "798" has evolved into a cultural concept."

In a communist China, I was sceptical before going there about how "open-minded" it would be, but it seemed pretty free to me. naive?..

I love watches.

I often joke about it saying it's because of my Asian origins (dont know if i have any but i feel like it ^^) The total budget of advertisement for watches in HK must be pretty close to the French GDP.. So there must be something about watches. Is it because it symbolizes Time, that precious commodity giving rythm and meaning to our life?

The thing is that I have recently experienced something with my watch that has given me some serious keys for a theory about it...

I have a watch from my favorite fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac (give me colors, give me craziness and I'm happy). There it is: my Pop Hours!

And each time I am wearing it, people notice it and make a comment about it, mostly "I like your watch!". And that's how I realized: watches are always noticed. They are part of the few things that clearly define us to the rest of the world. It is like a super facebook profile picture we wear all the time on us: this is who i am, and on a higher level: this is how i want you to see me.

Imagine someone naked, wearing his/her watch. (I am not putting any picture to illustrate that, I am sure you all have it coming to mind).

Every other accessory or piece of clothes would never be enough on its own to let you guess the style of the person, his social status, his tastes. It depends on how they are associated to create a style.

And now, think of the watch. It's all there. The brand tells you how much money was put into that watch. If it's expensive, the style let you know if its for showing-off or real bourgeoisy. The classic ones are for serious people, who like sober style, and you can easily guess if it's linked to good-taste or i-dont'care-about-style-taste . The crazy watches are for provocative people. "I am big, I am colorful, you will for sure notice me" is what the watch is telling to the whole world. Of course, it means you control your style and you're proud of it enough to have the watch matching it. I could go on forever to cover all the posibilities.

This is my theory: your watch is YOU. That's why it is so important. You have a synthesis of your identity just there, at your wristle, and everyone sees it, they know you in the blink of an eye.

I am strongly interested if you also have theories about watches.

How great is that: a fashion show is The place to look glamorous, sexy, perfect, and I just look like an ass.. haha, this is so ironic..

It was at the launching party in Paris last September of the first JC/DC collection 'Punkahontas and the the ducks". JC/DC being his new ready-to-wear brand, at a more accessible price for a younger generation.

The fashion concept? Andrea Crews creates clothes and accessories, reinterpreting second-hand clothes, or classics of other brands, by getting back stocks and by cutting in the falls. For a second-hand stores lover like me, I can only approve. Andrea Crews also prints basics in association with associated artists, and can create for famous brands such as the reinterpretation of the Lacoste's crocodile.

You can find Andrea Crews' creations in a trendy studio/shop 10, rue Frochot, Paris-9ème or at Colette (where else?). Take me to Paris! Well, you can also find creations in shops from Miami to Hong Kong (and I only know it now...)

I've always wanted to have a colorful cuckoo clock because I love kitsch, and I love colors. Cuckoo clocks are just seating next to the King in the Kitsch Kingdom (on the other side, you'll find the garden gnome)

Well, I guess someone heard my prayers because I've found an homeless broken one in the street some blessed day this summer in Paris. We've instantly fallen in love and I've brought it home to take good care of it and give it the colors it needed. It used to be dull and predictable wood brown.

Hmm..It's been quite a long time.. School is getting crazy these days because of the campaigns for Offices (Student/Sport/Art Offices). So it means a lot of partying and a little of sleep (add to that schoolwork and u get an exhausted lucie).

And yes, Im trying to make it in English from now on. Having fans all over the world is not an easy task. haha, i wish. don't think i'll last long but it's worth trying.

As I was talking about crazyness, I'd like to present you a mad brand: Atypyk. I like the way they deal with objects' functions. Even though i would not buy many of their creations, I love the concepts behind most of them. Interesting to see how an object can convey impertinence and humour. Chinese Man Records

Hier à Nantes, concert de CHINESE MAN.

Parce que ça serait bien trop simple, Chinese Man, ce n'est pas 1 chinois, mais un collectif de DJs pas plus asiatiques que moi, composé notamment des DJ marseillais Zé Mateo et High Ku et des beatmakers SLY et Leo le bug.

Style trip hop, puisant ses influences dans le funk, le dub, le reggae ou encore le jazz, Chinese Man est à écouter: http://www.myspace.com/chinesemanrecords, mais surtout à voir.

Sur scène, 2 tables de mix rouges, 3 DJs donc 3Macs, une allée de lampions rouge de chaque côté, et surtout, un écran.

Expérience sensorielle complète: défilent des vidéos de montages graphiques littéralement captivants alternés avec des vues de la scène en live, pendant que résonnent les beats dans nos petits corps qui gigotent en rythme , dans une lumière enfumée rouge et verte, le tout saupoudré d'un soupçon de beuh (à côté! je suis innocente) et de transpiration.

Je suis obligée de vous illustrer ça par 2 des vidéos qui sont passées hier.

D'où sort cette charmante créature me demandez-vous, et je vous comprends. 1ère étape, naissance sous les lumières aux clignotements incessants de Las Vegas, puis récemment, acteur dans Criminal Mind! Mais siii, docteur Reid, le surdoué coincé. Certes, il a du se passer deux, trois trucs entre ces deux étapes pour en arriver là:

Car oui, si l'homme est beau, l'homme est également artiste. L'objet de cet article étant bien évidemmment la deuxième caractéristique. (Vous avez vu comment je m'en sors pour pas paraître complètement superficielle, car oui, je suis du genre à cataloguer homme de ma vie un parfait inconnu...).

A.B. est un graphic designer anglais qui a étudié au Royal College of Art, à Londres.

C'est ce tableau par lequel tout a commencé: je l'ai vu chez Colette puis j'ai visuellement dévalisé son site.

Vous vous en apercevrez facilement, j'ai une passion pour les couleurs et les néons proportionnelle à celle pour le glauque et le macabre. Je suppose que c'est pour rendre plus lumineuse ma douce folie. Encore un qui pique les yeux comme j'aime:

J'ai découvert le photographe Brassaï en expo aux Beaux-Arts de Nantes (jusqu'au 4 janvier). Il est connu pour Paris de Nuit et Paris Secret, mais les photos de cette collection n'y sont pas exposées. Argh, qu'est ce que c'est beau une ville la nuit:

J'ai fait la visite guidée, car ne m'y connaissant ni en Brassaï ni en photo, j'avais peur de faire le tour de l'expo, de me dire "ouais c'est chouette" et de rentrer chez moi comme j'étais venue, inculte. Alors bien sûr, il y a les étiquettes qui racontent des trucs, mais c'est tellement mieux quand un passionné explique l'artiste, l'oeuvre et son contexte. Et surtout, pendant tout ce temps, ben tu es devant l'oeuvre. Parce que dans les musées, c'est plutôt tu passes devant. Je suis devenue fan des visites guidées.

Ce qui me fait me questionner sur les différentes lectures de l'art. C'est un sujet traumatisant pour moi car il est à l'origine d'une des plus grosses disputes entre mon ex et moi. Oui, on se la joue intellos. Et au final, sûrement par un mécanisme d'auto-protection face à la souffrance générée par le constat de l'inculture artistique qu'il me révélait (étudiant architecture contre prépa hec, je partais carrément perdante) ben j'ai complètement oublié ma position d'alors. Mais je digresse. Je disais donc, il y a ces 2 visions:

- celle où on te laisse seul face à l'oeuvre, tel ma grand-mère devant un iphone sans mode d'emploi, et tu te débrouilles. Chacun va alors puiser dans ses références pour tenter de la comprendre, si envie de comprendre il y a. Chacun va suivre ses émotions pour se dire: j'aime, j'aime pas. On est dans le subjectif. L'art est accessible à tous et chacun se positionne face à l'oeuvre en suivant son coeur.

- et puis il y a celle où on t'explique. qui est l'auteur. quelles sont ses influences. à quelle époque de sa vie il l'a réalisée. à quel mouvement appartient l'oeuvre. etc. et là tout s'éclaire. Tu comprends. Tu as les clés en main pour apprécier l'oeuvre. Et tu te mets à la détailler, à analyser les différents éléments, à faire des rapprochements avec d'autres oeuvres. Et au lieu de passer 30sec devant (déjà plus que la moyenne), tu t'en impregnes et tu te sens carrément savant. Je tends à penser que cette vision est la plus enrichissante. Même si un mode d'emploi c'est pas ce qu'il y a de plus divertissant, n'est ce pas au final après l'avoir lu qu'on se sert le mieux de l'objet? (Oups, si je ne me trompes pas, je crois que le discours de l'ex à germer en moi) Oui, mais alors, c'est les érudits qui sont les plus à même de jouir de l'art? Est ce qu'au final on intellectualise pas trop l'oeuvre pour ne plus savoir ce qu'on ressent, vierge, devant elle?

Je sens que s'opposent le ressentir et le comprendre, le coeur et la raison, et je sais pas quelle vision est la plus juste (bien que le terme juste soit trop abstrait ici). On pourrait s'en foutre, me diriez-vous, mais moi je trouve ça vachement troublant. L'oeuvre vient elle avec ou sans explication? Alors, faudrait il faire le tour du musée, choisir par soi-même les oeuvres qui nous parlent vraiment, qui trouvent écho dans notre émotivité, puis les analyser. Au quel cas on prend le risque de louper des chefs d'oeuvre, mais l'art nous a fait vibrer. Ou bien, faut-il être renseigné sur l'oeuvre et l'artiste, puis se promener dans le musée et là, vraiment comprendre les oeuvres, parler la même langue que l'artiste? Je suis perdue.

Après la visite avec mon mastère de l’exposition de l’Observeur du design à la Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, le prof de Design nous a demandé de choisir un produit qui avait attiré notre attention.

Ben moi, c'est des câbles électriques.

Le concept est simplissime : on a tous été confronté au moins une fois à la problématique d’un câble électrique à dissimuler car complètement inesthétique dans notre intérieur. DECOVISION® apporte l’évidente solution : pourquoi ne pas rendre le câble lui-même esthétique.

Les 5 familles de décor permettent une intégration du câble dans un univers. Le câble devient partie intégrante de l’objet et imite l’aspect visuel du matériau sur lequel il est utilisé. Il se fond ainsi parfaitement dans son environnement, en étant camouflé ou fantaisiste, participant pleinement à la mise en valeur des objets. http://www.decovision-omerin.com//

POURQUOI CE PRODUIT M’A PLU PLUS QU’UN AUTRE

J’ai choisi de m’attarder sur ce concept car il a immédiatement attiré mon attention. Si je me suis arrêtée sur le produit lors de l’exposition c’est qu’il répond à un besoin que j’ai souvent éprouvé sans l’avoir vraiment formulé. J’ai senti qu’il me concernait. 1er contact avec l'objet.

Pour mieux comprendre pourquoi un câble électrique peut me faire autant d'effet: j'ai l’habitude de souvent déménager et ma maison est mon repère. Comme mes habits, ma décoration est un moyen d’expression. J’aime me sentir chez moi et je ne laisse rien au hasard. Tendance mono-maniaque. Mon réveil étant sur mon étagère, et la prise au niveau du sol, classique, j’ai donc ressenti très récemment le besoin pour ma paix visuelle de cacher un fil électrique, ce que j’ai fait avec un boa à plumes blanches – on fait ce qu'on peut avec ce qu'on a.

Ma réaction a été très banale face à un problème de ce type : l’objet est moche = je le dissimule. Ainsi, ce fil fantaisie a pour moi un côté provoc'. "Oui, il y a un horrible fil électrique qui traverse la pièce, mais regardez comme le mien est sexy", "Moi et mon câble électrique, c'est le big love".

Ce qui me plaît dans ce projet, c’est l’audace. L’objet s’assume.

On contourne la réaction instinctive pour aller au-delà. Si l’objet n’est pas esthétique, pourquoi justement ne pas chercher à agir sur ses caractéristiques propres. On peut ainsi à présent choisir un câble qui vient se camoufler parfaitement dans le décor ou qui vient rajouter du décor par sa fantaisie. Avec ce dernier choix, qui est l’option qui m’attire le plus, on offre une fonction supplémentaire à l’objet, d’un simple convoyeur d’électricité, il devient objet de décoration.

J’aime dans la démarche du design cette capacité à aller chercher les solutions sur tous les fronts, à prendre du recul sur l’objet. Ma réaction face à l’objet a été « Mais c’est génial, ce câble électrique va révolutionner ma vie! » enfin presque.

D’AUTRES CONCEPTS OU L’ON RETROUVE CETTE DEMARCHE

De manière générale, c’est cette capacité à surprendre qui m’attire dans le design, à surprendre par l’évidence. Lors de la remise des étoiles, le grille-pain avec une fenêtre pour surveiller les toasts a suscité de l’étonnement dans la salle et la personne présentant le produit l’a en effet résumé ainsi: « c’est le genre de produit pour lequel tout le monde se demande pourquoi où on y avait pas pensé plus tôt ». Le toast n’est jamais grillé comme on le veut, faisons en sorte que l’on puisse le voir griller. La sauce n’est jamais du bon côté dans l’assiette, faisons une assiette avec un jeu de séparation. Les câbles électriques sont moches, rendons les beaux. Des évidences.

Le designer trouve la solution, en analysant l’objet et son contexte, là où on n’osait pas ou plus s’aventurer. Au sein de cette démarche, j’aime beaucoup le concept utilisé dans les câbles électriques qui est d’assumer l’objet. S’il dérange, s’efforcer de le cacher est souvent bien plus compliqué et maladroit que chercher à l’intégrer.

Cette idée est reprise avec Linky, le compteur électrique communicant d' ERDF. Cette installation que l’on cherchait désespérément à cacher devient visible donc on travaille son esthétisme, et pour définitivement nous réconcilier avec lui, on lui ajoute une interface de communication qui relie le consommateur, le fournisseur et le distributeur. Il permettra ainsi à l'utilisateur de mieux comprendre sa consommation et de modifier son comportement en conséquence pour consommer moins. Ou quand le designer transforme les inconvénients en avantages.

Pour extrapoler, je vois une intention similaire dans certaines réhabilitations d’anciens espaces. Pourquoi chercher à tuer le passé du lieu en rasant et reconstruisant alors qu’on peut faire renaître un espace dans des murs témoins de l'Histoire. Je pense au Lieu Unique à Nantes qui fait apparaître de manière évidente les anciennes structures pour donner au lieu son atmosphère. Le moche n’est plus caché, on le rend beau. On transforme la prétendue laideur du béton brut, des tuyaux de canalisation en véritable esthétique décorative.

Et ce n’est pas le centre Pompidou ou le béton brut griffonné de coups de crayon des murs de la boutique du siège de Baccarat designé par Starck, tous deux nés ex-nihilo avec cet esthétique, qui me contrediront.

Me voilà! J'ai un blog! Je suis pas encore une bloggeuse, mais en tout cas, j'ai mon blog.. à moi que c'est le mien et que je dis toutes les conneries que je veux :)

Cela fait un petit moment que j'y pense. Je me suis demandée si cet étalage de réflexions et pensées personnelles - dans le prolongement de mon étalage d'info. perso. et photos sur facebook - ne signait pas la mort d'une décence qui peut-être se perd aujourd'hui: celle de savoir cultiver son jardin secret à l'abri de regards. Et puis fuck, I am so 21st century so here I aaaaaam!

Et puis d'abord, ce n'est pas moi que vous allez découvrir:
C'est eux. Ces artistes, designers, penseurs, réalisateurs, musiciens, qui font valser mes émotions et réflexions.
C'est là. Ces endroits où l'on pourrait s'asseoir et attendre une vraiment, vraiment bonne raison pour repartir.
C'est ça. Ces objets et oeuvres qu'on l'on croise et qui nous font nous arrêter et observer, points d'exclamation ou d'interrogation dans les yeux.

Et ils sont partout! L'art, le design, la création sont partout, et c'est tant mieux.
